Hanford, California – Heavy snow and wind gusts up to 50 mph could shut down travel across the Tehachapi Mountains and Frazier Park area through Wednesday night.

According to the National Weather Service in Hanford, a Winter Storm Warning remains in effect until 10 p.m. PST Wednesday for the Frazier Mountain Communities, Piute Walker Basin and Tehachapi. An additional 1 to 2 feet of snow is expected, with snow levels lowering to between 2,500 and 3,000 feet overnight.

Communities including Frazier Park and Tehachapi will see snow-covered roads and sharply reduced visibility at times. Travel along Interstate 5 over Tejon Pass and Highway 58 near Tehachapi could become very difficult to impossible, especially during heavier bursts of snowfall. Gusty winds may also bring down tree branches and cause isolated power outages.

Drivers are urged to delay travel if possible and check Caltrans road conditions by calling 511 before heading into higher elevations. The warning remains in effect through Wednesday evening, with hazardous conditions likely to persist until snowfall tapers late.
