Indianapolis, IN – An early morning pursuit led to the arrest of a 17-year-old male after shots were allegedly fired in an eastside Indianapolis neighborhood, police said.
According to the Indianapolis Metropolitan Police Department (IMPD), the Indiana Crime Guns Task Force (ICGTF) responded to reports of multiple gunshots near E Michigan Street and N Gale Street around 12:45 a.m. Sunday. Officers observed a white vehicle fleeing the area at high speed and initiated a traffic stop in the 400 block of N Sherman Drive, where several occupants were detained. Additional officers allegedly discovered several 9mm shell casings nearby, consistent with the reported gunfire.
A handgun was reportedly recovered from inside the vehicle. After conducting interviews, investigators allegedly arrested a 17-year-old male on preliminary charges of Criminal Recklessness (Level 5 Felony) and Dangerous Possession of a Firearm by a Minor (Class A Misdemeanor). According to IMPD, the Marion County Prosecutor’s Office will review the case and determine final charging decisions. Police emphasized that all arrests are allegations and those arrested are presumed innocent unless and until proven guilty in a court of law.
IMPD said the case is part of ICGTF’s ongoing partnership among law enforcement agencies throughout central Indiana, targeting violent crimes and the illegal possession of firearms through coordinated investigations and technology-driven strategies.
