Tampa, Fla. – Afternoon heat and evening thunderstorms will dominate the Tampa Bay area this week, with temperatures soaring into the mid-90s and heat index values topping 103°F. The National Weather Service warns that daily rounds of storms could bring heavy rain, gusty winds, and localized flooding, particularly by Friday and Saturday.

According to the National Weather Service in Ruskin, isolated storms may develop Wednesday afternoon before activity increases late in the week. The most widespread storms are expected Friday into Saturday, with rain chances near 70%. Alongside storm hazards, the combination of high humidity and temperatures in the 90s will push heat indices into the triple digits, raising risks for heat exhaustion and dehydration.

Residents across Hillsborough, Pinellas, and Pasco counties should limit outdoor activity during peak afternoon hours, stay hydrated, and keep an eye on rapidly changing skies. Commuters may encounter slick roads and reduced visibility during evening rush hours as storms roll through.

The unsettled pattern continues into early next week, with storms likely most afternoons and highs holding in the low to mid-90s.
