Tampa, Florida – The pavement is already radiating heat across the Tampa Bay area this Sunday, and the hottest part of the day is still ahead. Sunshine, high humidity and light winds are combining to create oppressive conditions that could make outdoor activities uncomfortable and potentially dangerous by midafternoon.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, temperatures are expected to climb to around 95 degrees Sunday, while heat index values could reach 105 degrees. The combination of intense June sunshine and tropical moisture will make it feel significantly hotter than the thermometer suggests.
The weather story this week is less about storms and more about sustained summer heat.
Most of Sunday remains dry across Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties. While a brief isolated shower cannot be ruled out, sunshine will dominate for much of the day. Residents heading to beaches, parks, sporting events or community gatherings should plan for extended heat exposure.
Drivers along Interstate 275, Interstate 4, the Veterans Expressway and the Selmon Expressway may notice shimmering pavement and uncomfortable conditions when stepping outside vehicles. Keep extra water available if traveling during the afternoon.
Meteorologists are also tracking an even hotter start to the workweek. Monday is expected to reach 96 degrees under mostly sunny skies. Little relief arrives Monday night, with temperatures only falling to around 80 degrees.
By Tuesday, highs remain near 96 degrees before isolated afternoon thunderstorm chances begin increasing again later in the week. Wednesday brings a slight chance of storms, but temperatures still hold in the mid-90s.
The prolonged stretch of heat increases the risk of heat exhaustion, especially for outdoor workers, children and older adults. Wear lightweight clothing, take frequent breaks and avoid strenuous activity during peak afternoon hours.
Long-range outlooks continue favoring above-normal temperatures across Florida through late June, reinforcing a classic summer pattern across the Gulf Coast.
