Florida – Warm air and increasing clouds set the tone across the Tampa Bay area this morning as a developing weather system brings a change before a quieter stretch settles in. Pavement remains mostly dry early, but darker clouds signal showers on the way.
According to the National Weather Service, Tampa Bay faces a chance for showers later today, with coverage increasing into the evening. A few thunderstorms are possible, especially before midnight. Rainfall totals generally range between a half inch and one inch, with locally higher amounts in stronger storms. Gusty winds may briefly reduce visibility during heavier rain.
In Tampa, drivers along I-275, I-4, and the Selmon Expressway should prepare for slick roads later today. Reduced visibility and ponding could slow travel during evening hours. Plan extra time if heading out and watch for sudden downpours near the bay.
Conditions improve quickly after the rain moves through. Skies gradually clear, and Sunday turns mostly sunny with highs climbing into the mid-70s. Any lingering damp spots dry out fast as winds ease and sunshine returns.
The warming trend continues into the first full week of 2026. Monday and Tuesday bring abundant sunshine with highs in the upper 70s, edging close to 80 degrees by midweek. Nights stay mild, with lows in the upper 50s, keeping winter jackets mostly unnecessary.
Meteorologists note that while winter weather dominates much of the country, Florida stays on the warm side of the pattern. Aside from today’s showers, no major hazards are expected across central Florida.
