Tampa, Florida — Tampa reached 90 degrees on Friday, March 6, setting a new daily temperature record and marking the earliest 90-degree day ever recorded in the city.

According to the National Weather Service Tampa Bay office, the high temperature broke the previous daily record of 89°F set in 2022.

Meteorologists said the milestone is also significant historically. The March 6 reading marks the earliest first 90-degree day in Tampa since temperature records began in April 1890.

The previous earliest 90-degree day occurred March 16, 1945, making this year’s event 10 days earlier than the previous record.

Several other sites across the Tampa Bay region also set or tied daily high temperature records Friday, according to the weather service.

In St. Petersburg, the high reached 89°F, breaking the previous record of 88°F set in 1961.
Brooksville tied its daily record at 89°F, matching a mark originally set in 1961.
At the NWS Ruskin office, the temperature climbed to 89°F, surpassing the previous record of 88°F set in 2022.

Forecasters said the unusually warm temperatures reflect a period of early-season heat across parts of Florida, with several locations experiencing record or near-record highs.

Warm conditions can impact outdoor workers, students, and commuters as temperatures reach levels more typical of late spring.

Residents are encouraged to stay hydrated and monitor updated forecasts as the warm pattern continues across the region.
