Tampa, Fla. – Afternoon temperatures pushing near 90 degrees will combine with increasing humidity to spark scattered showers and storms along the I-275 and I-4 corridors by midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, high pressure will keep warm and increasingly moist air in place through the week. Rain chances rise from around 20% Tuesday to as high as 50% by Thursday afternoon, with the greatest coverage expected during peak heating hours between 2 p.m. and 7 p.m.
Highs will range from the lower 80s Tuesday to the upper 80s and near 90 degrees Thursday and Friday across Hillsborough, Pinellas and Pasco counties. While widespread severe weather is not anticipated, isolated thunderstorms could produce brief downpours, lightning and gusty winds, especially inland along I-75 and east of Tampa.
Motorists traveling during the afternoon commute should be prepared for sudden heavy rain reducing visibility and causing ponding on roadways. Slick conditions may develop quickly on I-275, I-4 and the Veterans Expressway during stronger cells.
Overnight lows will remain mild, generally in the lower to upper 60s, adding to the humid feel. The pattern favors scattered daily shower and storm chances into Saturday, with no prolonged dry stretch expected.
Residents should monitor daily updates, as localized heavier storms could briefly disrupt outdoor plans during the late afternoon and early evening hours through the end of the week.
