TAMPA, Fla. – Periods of heavy rain and thunderstorms are expected to drench much of Florida through midweek, raising the threat of localized flooding in urban areas and low-lying communities.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, showers will first impact coastal areas during the morning before shifting inland each afternoon. Forecasters say rainfall totals could reach 2 to 4 inches in parts of West Central and Southwest Florida, with isolated higher amounts possible.

Localized flooding remains the primary concern, especially in Pinellas, Hillsborough, Sarasota, and Pasco counties where poor drainage and ponding are common during heavy downpours. Commuters may face reduced visibility, slick roads, and minor roadway flooding during peak travel times.

Residents are urged to avoid driving through standing water and allow extra time for travel. Those in flood-prone neighborhoods should keep storm drains clear and be prepared for additional advisories if rainfall rates intensify.

Rain and storm chances are expected to persist daily through at least Wednesday, keeping the flood risk elevated across the Florida peninsula.
