Tampa, Fla. – Residents across west-central Florida should brace for a stormy stretch as daily thunderstorms and heavy rainfall build through late week, raising concerns for localized flooding. Afternoon storms are expected to form inland before shifting toward the Gulf Coast by evening, a pattern that could make evening commutes hazardous.

According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, the new storm track favors east-to-west moving showers each afternoon, with rain chances climbing as high as 80% in several areas, including Tampa, Lakeland, and Sarasota. Rainfall totals may reach 4 to 6 inches by the weekend, with higher localized amounts possible.

Cities such as Brooksville, Sebring, and Fort Myers are forecast to see repeated rounds of thunderstorms, while coastal communities could see heavy rain late in the day. Flooding is possible on low-lying roads, and drivers are urged to use caution during evening hours when downpours are expected to peak.

Power outages may also occur where storms bring gusty winds and frequent lightning. Officials recommend charging devices and avoiding unnecessary travel during the heaviest rainfall.

The unsettled weather pattern will hold through the weekend, with the potential for more advisories if rainfall totals increase.
