Tampa, Florida – Even with increasing cloud cover and rain chances, extreme heat remains a concern across the Tampa Bay area Friday, especially in inland counties.
According to the National Weather Service in Tampa Bay, high temperatures in the mid-90s will combine with high humidity to push heat index values to between 100° and 107° across Hillsborough, Polk, and Pasco Counties. While the overall risk for heat-related illness is trending downward, Friday still carries an “elevated” heat threat designation.
Residents are urged to stay indoors during peak heat hours, wear light-colored clothing, and drink plenty of water. Outdoor laborers and vulnerable populations, especially seniors and children, are at heightened risk during the afternoon hours.
The weekend will bring relief, with showers and more typical August conditions returning, helping to moderate extreme temperatures.
