With the sweltering summer heat taking over, residents of Tallahassee should brace for dangerously high temperatures on Tuesday, July 22nd. The National Weather Service has issued a heat advisory for the region from 11:00 AM to 7:00 PM EDT. Expect a high near 98°F, with the heat index climbing to 107°F, making outdoor conditions feel incredibly oppressive.

According to the NWS, a slight chance of afternoon thunderstorms will only briefly interrupt the intense heat. The storms, likely to begin after 3 PM, may bring some temporary relief, but they will also add to the humidity. Winds will remain light, with gusts around 5 mph, which won’t offer much in terms of cooling.

For those in the surrounding counties, including Gadsden, Jefferson, and Leon, the risks of heatstroke and dehydration are very real. If possible, stay indoors during peak heat hours, hydrate regularly, and avoid strenuous activities. Those who must travel should remain cautious on roadways, especially during any brief storm periods.

Looking ahead to the rest of the week, expect similar conditions, with high heat continuing through Wednesday, July 24th. A slight chance of thunderstorms will persist throughout the week, but the primary concern will be the oppressive heat.
