Tallahassee, FL – The National Weather Service in Tallahassee warns of an elevated fire danger today across southeast Alabama, southwest Georgia, the Florida Panhandle, and the Big Bend region, due to low humidity and ongoing drought conditions.

Afternoon humidity is expected to fall between 22% and 28%, making it easier for fires to start and spread quickly. Officials urge residents to avoid open flames, keep vehicles off dry grass, and refrain from using outdoor equipment that could produce sparks.

Meanwhile, a cold front will approach the area late Sunday into Monday, bringing a 40–60% chance of rain. Forecasters note that rainfall totals will likely stay under one inch for most locations, meaning the incoming system will not significantly improve drought conditions. A few light showers may linger into Tuesday, depending on how quickly the front moves through.

The National Weather Service advises residents to stay weather-aware through the weekend, especially as dry conditions persist ahead of Sunday’s rain.
