Tallahassee, Florida – Strong afternoon storms and sweltering heat will grip the Tallahassee area on Tuesday, July 29, prompting a summer weather alert from the National Weather Service. Temperatures will climb to 98°F, with heat index values topping 110°F, just before thunderstorms develop after 2 p.m., raising concerns for afternoon travel across I-10 and local roadways.

According to the National Weather Service, there’s a 70% chance of thunderstorms Tuesday afternoon into the evening, fueled by high humidity and unstable air. Wind gusts up to 15 mph and heavy rainfall could cause localized flooding and temporary power outages. Westbound traffic along Interstate 10 and roads near downtown Tallahassee may experience delays.

Residents are urged to stay hydrated, limit outdoor activity, and charge electronic devices in case of isolated outages. Outdoor workers and those commuting should prepare for changing conditions between 2 p.m. and 8 p.m.

This marks the first organized thunderstorm threat of the week, kicking off an active weather stretch. While Wednesday through Friday bring slightly lower storm chances (30–40%), heat will remain intense, with highs near 96°F daily.

Looking ahead:
Weekend storms return in full force, with rain chances jumping to 70% Saturday and 80% Sunday. Cooler highs in the upper 80s offer slight relief, but storm activity could impact outdoor events through August 3rd.
