TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Heat and humidity will grip the Florida Panhandle today before scattered thunderstorms build into the area by late Sunday, raising concerns for afternoon travel and outdoor plans through midweek.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, today will bring partly sunny skies with highs near 94 degrees, while calm conditions tonight give way to storm chances Sunday. A 30 percent risk of showers and thunderstorms develops after 2 p.m. Sunday, growing to 50 percent Monday afternoon, especially across Leon, Gadsden, and Wakulla counties.
Localized downpours could slow traffic on I-10 and U.S. 319 during the late-day commute, with brief lightning strikes possible around outdoor events. Winds will remain light but shift northeast by Monday, helping fuel storm development. Residents are urged to limit time outside during peak heat and stay weather-aware for quickly changing conditions.
By Tuesday and Wednesday, storm chances hold at 30 to 40 percent, with highs easing back into the mid- to upper-80s. Rain may briefly ease by late week, but another round of unsettled weather could follow.
