Tallahassee, FL – A Freeze Watch has been issued for southeast Alabama, southwest and south-central Georgia, and Florida’s Big Bend and Panhandle, as a surge of Arctic air pushes into the region Monday evening through Tuesday morning, bringing temperatures as low as the mid-20s in some inland areas.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, subfreezing conditions are expected across much of the Tri-State region, including Tallahassee, Dothan, Bainbridge, Albany, Panama City, and Perry. A hard freeze—with temperatures near 22–26°F—is possible in portions of southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia.
Forecasters warn that the cold will be severe enough to kill crops, flowers, and other sensitive vegetation, and could burst unprotected pipes. Residents are urged to cover plants, wrap plumbing, bring pets indoors, and check on children, seniors, and anyone vulnerable to cold.
Calm winds and clear skies will allow temperatures to drop rapidly after sunset Monday, producing widespread frost and freezing conditions by early Tuesday morning.
Temperatures are expected to rebound slightly by midweek, but another cold front could reinforce chilly air later in the week.
