Tallahassee, Florida – Residents in and around Tallahassee could see a brief and unusual wintry change early Sunday as rain mixes with or briefly changes to snow, though travel impacts are expected to remain minimal.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a strong cold front moving through the region late Saturday night will usher in colder air, allowing rain to mix with or end as light snow Sunday morning. The best chance for seeing snow will be north of Tallahassee, but portions of the city could still see flakes during the early morning hours.
Any accumulation is expected to be light, generally a trace to up to 1 inch, with most snow confined to grassy and elevated surfaces. Warm ground temperatures should prevent significant accumulation on roadways, limiting travel impacts. Major routes such as U.S. 27, U.S. 90, and Capital Circle are expected to remain mainly wet rather than snow-covered.
Snow chances are highest around daybreak Sunday and should taper off quickly as skies begin to clear. Temperatures are expected to rebound into the mid to upper 40s by afternoon, helping melt any brief accumulation.
While widespread roadway issues are not anticipated, drivers are advised to remain alert during the early morning hours, especially on bridges and less-traveled roads where brief slick spots could develop. No significant travel disruptions are expected, but additional updates may be issued if conditions change.
