Florida – Calm morning air hangs over Tallahassee, but storm clouds are already organizing across the Gulf. The day begins quiet, yet the atmosphere is building toward a loud shift before St. Patrick’s Day arrives.

Temperatures sit in the mid-60s early this morning, with overcast skies across Leon County. The air feels mild and slightly humid. Sunshine will break through later, pushing afternoon highs toward 81°F and delivering strong early spring warmth across the Florida Panhandle.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, conditions change late tonight as showers begin developing after 2 a.m. Rain coverage increases quickly before sunrise Monday.

By Monday afternoon, a more organized line of storms moves across the region. Thunderstorms become likely after 2 p.m., and a few storms may turn severe.

Meteorologists warn that damaging wind gusts and heavy rainfall are possible with the strongest cells. Rainfall totals could reach a quarter to half inch, with higher pockets beneath stronger storms.

Drivers traveling along Interstate 10, U.S. 27, and Capital Circle should prepare for reduced visibility and wet pavement during the afternoon commute. Lightning could also briefly halt outdoor events or construction work.

Behind the storm line, temperatures drop sharply Monday night. Cooler northwest winds arrive as skies begin clearing.

By Tuesday — St. Patrick’s Day — the air feels noticeably different. Afternoon highs only reach the mid-50s, nearly 25 degrees cooler than the warm start to the week.

Sunshine returns midweek as the pattern settles. Temperatures slowly rebound into the 60s and 70s, hinting that steadier spring warmth is building for late March.
