TALLAHASSEE, Florida — A sharp blast of winter weather is arriving across North Florida as a strong cold front sweeps through the region, prompting the National Weather Service in Tallahassee to issue a Cold Weather Advisory for late tonight through Tuesday morning.

Forecasters say dangerously cold wind chills between 17 and 24 degrees are expected across Tallahassee and surrounding inland areas from 3 AM to 10 AM Tuesday. While air temperatures will fall into the upper 20s, persistent north winds will make it feel significantly colder, especially during the early morning commute.

According to the latest wind chill forecast, Tallahassee is expected to bottom out near 27 degrees, but winds will drive “feels-like” temperatures down into the mid-20s, with colder readings possible in nearby rural locations. Areas farther inland across southeast Alabama and southwest Georgia may experience wind chills as low as 17 degrees.

This sudden cold snap follows an extended stretch of mild weather and is being described by forecasters as a temperature “whiplash” event. The cold air arrives behind a strong cold front moving rapidly across the Southeast, bringing clearing skies but reinforcing cold, dry air overnight.

Residents are urged to dress in multiple layers, limit time outdoors during the coldest hours, and check on vulnerable individuals, including the elderly, unhoused populations, and pets. Officials also remind residents to practice fire safety when using space heaters or alternative heating sources.

The cold conditions will persist through Tuesday morning, but sunshine is expected later in the day. Winds will gradually ease by Tuesday afternoon, allowing temperatures to recover slightly, though cool conditions will remain in place through midweek.
