Tallahassee, FL – Heavy rain and thunderstorms are set to drench Tallahassee and much of North Florida through Tuesday night, raising the risk of flash flooding, washed-out roads, and sudden travel delays. Flood watches are in effect across Leon County and the surrounding region as waves of intense downpours persist.

According to the National Weather Service, showers and storms will intensify overnight into Monday, with the highest flood threat through Tuesday. Rainfall rates could top an inch per hour in stronger cells, quickly overwhelming low-lying streets and creeks. East winds and saturated ground mean flash flooding could develop fast, especially in flood-prone neighborhoods and along US-90, I-10, and side streets near downtown.

Drivers should stay alert for rapidly rising water and avoid flooded roadways. Use alternate routes, monitor alerts, and keep mobile devices charged in case of power outages or changing conditions. Residents near ditches, streams, or poor drainage areas should be prepared for water to rise without warning.

Rain and thunderstorms will persist through at least Thursday, with daily high temperatures in the upper 80s to low 90s, and humidity driving heat index values even higher. More watches or warnings could be issued if storms persist or intensify.
