Florida – Dry grass crackles underfoot and a steady breeze carries the smell of warm air, a dangerous setup as fire conditions intensify across Tallahassee this afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Red Flag Warning is in effect with humidity dropping as low as 30% and winds increasing between 8 and 12 mph, with gusts up to 20 mph. These conditions allow fires to ignite and spread quickly.

Across Leon County and into southern Georgia, vegetation remains very dry. Even a small spark can turn into a fast-moving fire. Avoid outdoor burning and properly dispose of cigarettes. Equipment that creates sparks should not be used.

Temperatures climb into the upper 80s today, adding to the drying effect. Skies remain mostly sunny after early fog clears, but the combination of heat, wind, and low humidity creates a high-risk environment through the evening hours.

By Sunday, conditions ease slightly as humidity recovers and winds shift, though fire danger does not disappear. Some cloud cover may limit the intensity, but dry fuels remain in place.

Attention then turns to Monday. A Fire Weather Watch is already in place as another round of low humidity and increasing northeast winds could redevelop critical conditions. Gusts may reach near 25 mph, especially during the afternoon.

Looking ahead, temperatures settle into the low 80s early next week with mostly sunny skies. A gradual warming trend continues into midweek, with above-normal temperatures signaling an early taste of summer across the region.
