A chilly New Year’s Eve night is expected across North Florida, with some inland locations approaching or reaching freezing temperatures by early New Year’s Day, according to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee.
The NWS 2025 Farewell Forecast shows temperatures steadily falling through the evening, with midnight readings in the upper 30s to lower 40s inland, and low to mid-40s closer to the coast, including Apalachicola and Panama City. By sunrise Thursday, several inland communities may reach the freeze mark near 32 degrees.
Forecast data indicates Tallahassee dropping to the mid-30s, while colder spots such as Albany, Bainbridge, Cross City, and Valdosta are expected to fall into the lower to mid-30s, with isolated locations briefly touching freezing. Coastal areas along U.S. Highway 98 are expected to remain several degrees warmer.
According to the National Weather Service, conditions will remain dry and clear, allowing temperatures to fall efficiently overnight. Winds are expected to remain light, limiting wind chill concerns but increasing the potential for frost formation in sheltered areas.
Residents attending outdoor New Year’s Eve events or traveling overnight along U.S. 27, U.S. 319, and Interstate 10 should prepare for cold conditions, especially during the early morning hours of New Year’s Day.
Temperatures will rebound gradually after sunrise Thursday, ending the freeze threat by mid-morning.
