Tallahassee, Florida — Another surge of arctic air is expected to bring hard freezes and dangerous wind chills to the Tallahassee area this weekend, potentially impacting travel along Interstate 10 and nearby roadways.
According to a Wednesday morning update from the National Weather Service office in Tallahassee, forecasters are monitoring an incoming cold air mass that could be colder than earlier cold spells this week. The system is expected to arrive Saturday, with the most hazardous conditions developing Saturday night into early Sunday.
Forecast guidance shows a 70–100% chance of hard freeze conditions Saturday night and Sunday night, with temperatures at or below 25 degrees across much of the region. Areas along I-10, U.S. 90, and surrounding highways could see icy patches develop on bridges and overpasses during overnight and early morning hours.
In addition to freezing temperatures, the National Weather Service reports medium to high confidence (60–90%) that wind chills could fall into the single digits late Saturday night and early Sunday. These conditions increase the risk of frostbite for anyone exposed for extended periods and can strain heating systems.
Forecasters noted that some uncertainty remains regarding just how cold temperatures will ultimately get, but trends continue to point toward increasingly dangerous cold conditions as the weekend approaches.
Residents are urged to prepare now by protecting exposed pipes, bringing pets indoors, and checking on vulnerable neighbors. Drivers, especially overnight commuters and early-morning travelers, should remain alert for rapidly changing road conditions along major corridors like Interstate 10.
Students, service workers, and early-shift employees may face added challenges during peak cold hours late Saturday night and early Sunday morning.
The National Weather Service advises monitoring official forecasts through the weekend as timing and severity details become clearer.
