TALLAHASSEE, Fla. – Thursday will bring one of the most dangerous combinations of heat and storms this week for North Florida, with a heat index climbing near 102°F and scattered strong thunderstorms in the afternoon. The worst conditions are expected after 2 p.m., posing hazards for outdoor workers, commuters, and anyone without air conditioning.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, storms could produce heavy downpours, frequent lightning, and localized flooding, particularly in low-lying or poor-drainage areas of Leon County and surrounding communities. Rain chances hit 60%, and any storms could briefly reduce visibility on I-10 and local roadways.

Residents are urged to limit strenuous outdoor activity during peak afternoon heat, drink plenty of water, and monitor for lightning if outside. Those planning to attend school or community events should prepare for quick weather changes, as storms could build rapidly and linger into the early evening.

Friday will bring more sunshine and lower storm chances, but the heat remains intense, with highs in the mid-90s. Another storm pattern is expected to return through the weekend.
