Panama City, Florida – A high risk of rip currents and widespread rain chances are expected across the Florida Panhandle through Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, life-threatening rip currents are likely along beaches in Walton, Bay, Gulf, and Franklin counties through at least Friday. Surf heights are forecast around 2 to 4 feet, increasing the danger for swimmers along coastal areas near US-98, including Panama City Beach and St. George Island.

Beach officials urge residents and visitors to stay out of the surf where red flags are flying. Rip currents can quickly pull even experienced swimmers away from shore into deeper water.

Inland, a prolonged stretch of spring-like weather will continue, with highs climbing into the low to mid-70s across Tallahassee, Albany, Dothan, and Valdosta. Rain is expected Thursday through Friday, with a 40% to 70% chance of exceeding 1 inch across portions of the Tri-State region.

Forecasters note a low 10% to 30% chance of rainfall totals exceeding 2 inches. While the rain will be beneficial, it is not expected to significantly reduce long-term drought conditions. No flooding is currently anticipated.

Drivers along Interstate 10 and US-231 should anticipate wet roads Thursday night into Friday, particularly during heavier downpours.

Beachgoers, spring travelers, and commuters are encouraged to monitor local advisories as conditions evolve.
