Tallahassee, Florida – Isolated severe thunderstorms could produce wind gusts between 40 and 60 mph across the Florida Panhandle, southeast Alabama, and southwest Georgia through Saturday evening, threatening travel on I-10 and US-319.

According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Level 1 of 5 marginal risk for severe storms is in place for Saturday and Saturday evening. The primary hazard will be isolated strong to severe wind gusts capable of downing tree limbs and causing scattered power outages.

Strong wind gusts may arrive with little warning.

Storms could develop during the afternoon and track east across Tallahassee, Dothan, and Valdosta before 10 p.m. Saturday. Drivers along I-10 from Panama City to Madison and along US-84 in southeast Alabama should prepare for sudden downpours and brief visibility reductions below one mile.

Ahead of the storms, patchy coastal fog may continue through Saturday morning, especially near Apalachicola and along US-98. After a sharp cold front passes Saturday night, strong northerly winds develop Sunday, with gale-force gusts possible over Gulf waters and breezy conditions inland.

Temperatures will drop 20 to 30 degrees by Monday compared to Saturday highs. Widespread freeze and frost conditions are possible by Tuesday morning across inland portions of the region, including areas along I-75 in south Georgia.

What residents should do now: Secure outdoor items, monitor weather alerts Saturday afternoon, and have multiple ways to receive warnings.

Severe storm potential ends late Saturday night, but windy and sharply colder conditions follow Sunday into early next week. Additional advisories may be issued as the cold air settles in.
