Tallahassee, Florida – Rainfall totals up to 2 inches could impact travel along I-10 Sunday into Sunday night.

According to the US National Weather Service in Tallahassee, widespread beneficial rain is expected mainly Sunday through Sunday night across the Florida Panhandle, South Georgia and southeast Alabama. A high chance — between 70% and 90% — exists for rainfall amounts exceeding 1 inch areawide.

Forecasters indicate a medium chance, between 50% and 60%, of totals exceeding 2 inches in parts of the region. The probability of more than 3 inches remains low, between 10% and 25%.

Rainfall is expected to peak Sunday afternoon and evening before tapering early Monday. While the rain will be beneficial for dry conditions across the region, it is not expected to provide significant drought relief.

Flash flood guidance values show most areas would require several inches of rain in a short period to trigger widespread flooding. The National Weather Service states no major flooding concerns are anticipated outside of nuisance ponding in urban, low-lying or poor-drainage areas.

Motorists traveling along I-10 through Tallahassee, US-98 near Panama City, I-75 in Valdosta and US-231 in Dothan may encounter reduced visibility and standing water during heavier downpours Sunday evening.

Residents, including weekend travelers and commuters preparing for Monday morning drives, should monitor updated forecasts as rainfall develops.
