Tallahassee, Fla. – Residents across the Florida Panhandle, Big Bend, southeast Alabama, and southwest Georgia are facing dangerous heat conditions today and Saturday, with heat index values climbing near 110 degrees. Afternoon highs will top out in the mid-90s, making this one of the hottest stretches of the summer.
According to the National Weather Service in Tallahassee, a Heat Advisory remains in effect for the entire region through Saturday, with the highest heat risk occurring during the late afternoon hours. Prolonged exposure or physical activity in these conditions can quickly lead to heat-related illness, especially for those without adequate cooling or hydration.
Cities including Dothan, Valdosta, Panama City, and Apalachicola are expected to feel the brunt of the heat, with rural areas offering little relief. Officials urge residents to limit outdoor work, drink plenty of water, and check on vulnerable neighbors, children, and pets. Those without air conditioning should seek cooling centers or shaded locations.
The advisory may be extended if extreme heat persists into Sunday. NWS officials recommend staying alert for updates and taking precautions now to avoid serious health impacts.
