Tallahassee, FL – After a stretch of dry weather, rain is set to return to the Florida Panhandle and southeast Alabama on Sunday, according to the US National Weather Service in Tallahassee.
Forecasters say the rain will arrive with an approaching cold front Sunday morning, spreading east through the afternoon. The best rain chances are expected across the Central Time Zone counties, where a few isolated thunderstorms could develop.
While the system isn’t expected to be a “drought buster,” meteorologists note that any rainfall will be beneficial given ongoing dry conditions. The NWS says residents can expect light to moderate amounts of rain, along with gusty winds and locally heavy downpours in some areas.
Officials encourage residents to review outdoor plans and have a backup option, especially during peak rain hours on Sunday afternoon.
“This rain should be helpful, but not drought-busting,” the agency noted in its early Tuesday morning update. “We’ll take anything we can get at this point.”
More updates will be issued as the weekend system approaches.
