Tallahassee, Fla. – North Florida will see another week of unsettled weather as daily thunderstorms return to Tallahassee, beginning Monday, September 8. Storms may bring heavy downpours, lightning, and hazardous driving conditions, especially during afternoon commutes.

According to the National Weather Service, Monday carries a 50 percent chance of thunderstorms after 2 p.m., with highs near 88. Similar conditions are forecast Tuesday, with a 40 percent storm chance. While rainfall amounts will vary, heavier cells could quickly flood streets and reduce visibility for drivers. Sunshine is expected to build by Thursday, bringing a brief reprieve from the stormy trend.

For Leon County commuters, including those along I-10 and US-27, Monday and Tuesday’s afternoon storms will likely cause slower travel times. Drivers are urged to keep headlights on in heavy rain and avoid flooded intersections. Outdoor workers and students returning to campuses should remain weather-aware during the afternoon hours when storms are most likely.

By Thursday, drier and sunnier conditions return with highs near 88, and Friday continues the trend with more sunshine. NOAA’s extended precipitation outlook, however, places Florida in the “above normal” category, meaning storm chances could resurface later in September.

The National Weather Service advises Tallahassee residents to monitor local updates and take precautions during daily storm windows early this week.
