BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Spotty lake-effect rain showers will fade this evening, giving way to clearer skies and cooler overnight conditions across central New York. Lows are expected to dip into the low 40s in higher elevations and the low 50s in valleys, making for a brisk night.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, showers today delivered only light rainfall, ranging from a few hundredths to a tenth of an inch per pass. Drier air moves in overnight, setting up a more comfortable Thursday with afternoon highs climbing into the low to mid-70s across Syracuse, Binghamton, and Ithaca.

By Friday, cooler air returns as temperatures slide back into the 60s and lower 70s. Areas like Boonville and Delhi may struggle to get out of the 60s Friday afternoon, while southern spots such as Wilkes-Barre and Scranton will hold near the mid-70s. Travelers should expect crisp mornings and mild afternoons through the end of the week.

Residents are encouraged to keep jackets handy for the cool nights ahead and allow for extra time on morning commutes when visibility may be reduced by patchy fog.

More seasonable temperatures are expected into the weekend, with no widespread rainfall anticipated until early next week.
