Syracuse, New York – Snow showers are expected to continue across Syracuse tonight into Friday morning, with a Winter Weather Advisory in effect until 1 p.m. Friday.

According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, scattered snow showers this afternoon will become more lake-enhanced and concentrated north of Syracuse this evening, continuing overnight. Periods of snow may reduce visibility and lead to snow-covered and slick roads, especially during overnight travel and the Friday morning commute.

While snowfall rates are not expected to be extreme, persistent lake-effect snow bands can cause rapidly changing conditions. Even light accumulations may lead to hazardous driving on interstates, city streets, ramps, and untreated roads.

The most impactful window is expected this evening through mid-morning Friday, when snow showers are most organized. Travel conditions may improve gradually late Friday morning into the afternoon as snow tapers off.

Temperatures will remain cold enough for snow to accumulate efficiently, and visibility could drop quickly under heavier bursts. Drivers should be prepared for sudden changes in road conditions, particularly north and northeast of the city.

Residents are urged to slow down, allow extra travel time, and monitor local road conditions. Anyone traveling early Friday should plan for winter driving conditions.

The Winter Weather Advisory expires at 1 p.m. Friday, but cold conditions will persist into the weekend.
