BINGHAMTON, N.Y. – Warm and comfortable conditions across Central New York will give way to rising humidity and storm chances midweek. Temperatures climbed into the upper 80s and low 90s Monday afternoon, but dew points in the low 60s kept the air from feeling oppressive.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, humidity will increase Tuesday as dew points rise into the upper 60s and low 70s across much of the region. Afternoon highs will again reach the upper 80s to low 90s from Syracuse to Elmira, making for a muggy day ahead of an approaching cold front.
Storm chances increase Wednesday, especially in the afternoon, as the front moves through. Widespread showers and thunderstorms are possible, with heavier downpours and gusty winds in some areas. Commuters along I-81 and I-88 should plan for slower travel during the storm window. Residents are urged to secure outdoor items and avoid open areas during thunder.
The unsettled weather is expected to break humidity levels by late Wednesday night. More updates are likely as the storm system approaches.
