Syracuse, NY – A Winter Weather Advisory remains in effect today for Onondaga and Madison counties, where lake effect snow and the potential for brief snow squalls could create dangerous travel conditions, according to the US National Weather Service in Binghamton.

Snowfall will persist through the day, with the most intense bands developing late morning through mid-afternoon. Forecasters warn that visibility may drop rapidly during squalls, especially between 9 a.m. and 2 p.m., as an arctic front sweeps through the region.

Snow totals of 3 to 5 inches are expected in most areas, but locally up to 6 inches could fall where heavier lake bands set up—particularly around Syracuse and Cazenovia.

The Winter Weather Advisory is in effect until 7 p.m. tonight, with roads likely becoming slick and snow-covered through the evening commute. Behind the front, much colder air will settle in, sending wind chills near or below zero overnight.

Residents are urged to use caution if traveling and be prepared for sudden whiteout conditions.
