According to the US National Weather Service Northern Indiana, life-threatening waves and currents are forecasted for the Berrien/LaPorte County area. The alert, issued early Thursday, warns of strong winds and high waves that could endanger swimmers and beachgoers. Winds are expected to range from 15 to 25 MPH, with waves reaching 3 to 6 feet in Berrien County and 2 to 4 feet in LaPorte County.
The weather service advises that such conditions can produce powerful rip currents and hazardous surf, making swimming extremely dangerous. Residents and visitors are urged to heed safety warnings and avoid entering the water. Lifeguards and local authorities are on high alert to respond to emergencies.
Beachgoers are also cautioned to stay clear of piers and other structures where currents can be particularly strong.
