Minneapolis, Minnesota – Tornadoes, large hail, and winds up to 70 mph could hit the Twin Cities late Monday as severe thunderstorms move through much of central and southern Minnesota.
According to the National Weather Service Twin Cities, an Enhanced Risk (Level 3 of 5) is in effect for the metro and surrounding areas between 4 and 10 p.m. Monday. The most dangerous storms are likely in the orange-shaded region on the map, which includes Minneapolis, St. Paul, St. Cloud, and Mankato.
Widespread hazards include damaging wind gusts, golf ball-sized hail or larger, and the possibility of isolated tornadoes. Morning storms could reduce some of the instability later in the day, but residents are urged to stay alert for rapid updates and watches.
Travel along I-35, I-94, and Highway 52 could become hazardous by late afternoon. Outdoor events and commutes may be disrupted as storms roll through during peak hours.
Have multiple ways to receive weather alerts and avoid outdoor activities during warning periods. Secure loose items and charge devices ahead of time in case of power outages.
Storm threats taper overnight, with drier weather returning Tuesday. Further advisories may be issued Monday morning.
