Frederica, DE – A Philadelphia man is facing multiple felony charges after Delaware State Police say he led troopers on a high-speed pursuit early Friday morning before being taken into custody in Frederica.
According to Delaware State Police, the incident began around 2:00 a.m. Friday when a trooper observed a Lexus ES300 traveling southbound on Bay Road near Barratts Chapel Road at a high rate of speed. When the trooper attempted a traffic stop, the driver allegedly refused to stop and accelerated, prompting a pursuit that was later terminated due to public safety concerns.
A short time later, officers with the City of Milford Police Department located the Lexus disabled near North Street and Dupont Boulevard in Frederica. Police say the driver, later identified as 29-year-old Marquan Mack of Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, exited the vehicle and allegedly threw a baggie containing an unknown substance before attempting to flee on foot.
Troopers responded to the scene, and after a brief struggle, Mack was taken into custody, police said. A search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of the discarded baggie, which authorities say contained approximately 3.5 grams of suspected powder cocaine.
Further investigation revealed Mack allegedly provided false identifying information to troopers in an attempt to conceal active parole violation warrants in New Jersey and a probation violation in Pennsylvania, according to police. Troopers also reported signs of impairment and conducted a DUI investigation.
Mack was transported to Troop 3, where he was charged with multiple offenses, including felony charges related to providing false statements to law enforcement, disregarding a police signal, and drug possession. He was arraigned by a Justice of the Peace Court 2 and committed to the Sussex Correctional Institution on a $6,001 secured bond.
All charges are allegations. The defendant is presumed innocent until proven guilty in court.
