Georgetown, DE – A Georgetown man is facing multiple felony charges after Delaware State Police say he allegedly carried out a series of overnight burglaries at a used auto parts business where he was once employed.
According to the Delaware State Police, troopers responded Monday, January 26, to Donovan Salvage Works at 2062 Donovans Road after employees reported ongoing thefts. Staff told investigators they had noticed inventory missing since December and discovered footprints in the snow leading away from the property.
While following those tracks, employees located some of the missing inventory on a nearby property and reported seeing a former employee in the area. Police identified the suspect as 50-year-old Gary Calloway Jr. of Georgetown, who had been terminated from the business approximately two years earlier. Investigators said Calloway allegedly attempted to hide before fleeing to his vehicle when noticed by employees.
The case was taken over by the Delaware State Police Troop 4 Criminal Investigations Unit. Detectives determined that between late November and January, Calloway allegedly damaged a lock and committed seven separate overnight burglaries, stealing an estimated $5,000 worth of inventory.
Police also allege Calloway sold the stolen items at pawn shops and, at times, used identification belonging to a deceased family member to conceal his identity during transactions.
Detectives apprehended Calloway on Friday, January 30, in Ellendale without incident. He was transported to Troop 4, arraigned by Justice of the Peace Court 2, and released on a $47,100 unsecured bond.
Calloway faces multiple charges, including felony identity theft, seven counts of third-degree burglary, possession of burglar tools, falsifying business records, and several theft-related offenses. All charges are allegations, and the case remains pending.
