Georgetown, DE – A 36-year-old Laurel man was arrested Tuesday night after Delaware State Police allegedly found a sawed-off shotgun and methamphetamine in his truck during a traffic stop in Sussex County.

According to Delaware State Police, the stop occurred around 10:12 p.m. on October 9, 2025, when a trooper spotted a Dodge Dakota on Georgetown Road near Sussex Highway in Laurel with a registration violation. The truck was pulled into the parking lot of Hardee’s at 30759 Sussex Highway, where troopers identified the driver as Jeremy Cooper of Laurel.

Police said Cooper failed to provide registration or insurance information for the vehicle. After speaking with him further, troopers allegedly learned there was a sawed-off shotgun inside the truck. Cooper was detained without incident.

During a subsequent search, troopers reportedly recovered a sawed-off .410-gauge shotgun, various rifle ammunition, multiple magazines, drug paraphernalia, and about 0.1 grams of methamphetamine.

Cooper was transported to Troop 5, where he was charged with several felonies, including carrying a concealed deadly weapon, possession of a destructive weapon, and possession of a deadly weapon by a person prohibited who also allegedly possessed a controlled substance.

He was arraigned at Justice of the Peace Court 7 and released on a $10,100 unsecured bond, police said.
