Superior, AZ – Drivers traveling between Superior and Miami on Tuesday will face a significant delay as the Arizona Department of Transportation (ADOT) closes a long stretch of US 60 for several hours late Tuesday morning.

According to ADOT, US 60 between mileposts 227 and 243 will be fully closed from 9 a.m. to 2 p.m. on Tuesday, Nov. 25, for planned work in the Superior area. No traffic will be allowed through during that five-hour window.

Eastbound drivers will be rerouted onto Southbound State Route 177, then through Winkelman to connect with Northbound SR 77. Westbound travelers will also use Southbound SR 77 through Winkelman before reconnecting with SR 177, according to ADOT.

The agency warned that the detour is roughly 75 miles, adding an estimated one hour of extra travel time between Superior and Miami. Because of the distance, officials recommend drivers avoid the closure window entirely by traveling before 9 a.m. or after 2 p.m.

ADOT noted that this closure will not affect Thanksgiving travel, as no lane restrictions or shutdowns are scheduled from Thursday, Nov. 26, through Monday, Dec. 1.

Drivers statewide — especially those heading toward Pinal County mining towns or making early-week holiday trips — are encouraged to plan ahead and allow for extended travel time.

Residents and commuters can check for updates through ADOT’s statewide travel alerts system or the agency’s social media channels.
