Champaign, IL – Early Sunday morning, gunfire erupted at an apartment complex in Champaign, leaving two people dead, including a teenage woman. Police were dispatched at 12:34 a.m. to the 2000 block of Cynthia Drive following reports of multiple injuries. Emergency personnel provided immediate medical aid and transported victims to a nearby hospital.
A 17-year-old male from Champaign and an 18-year-old female succumbed to their injuries. A 25-year-old female and a 15-year-old male, both with non-life-threatening injuries, remain hospitalized in stable condition. Initial investigations suggest the victims were in the apartment complex parking lot when an unknown assailant opened fire. Property damage to one vehicle was also reported.
