Sumter, SC – A Manning woman working as a child therapist was arrested last week after being accused of abusing a student at a Sumter County private school, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.

According to deputies, the alleged incident occurred at Wedgefield University for Kids, where the therapist was providing services through a private company. The sheriff’s office said the employer reported the allegation to authorities after receiving information from a school official who claimed evidence suggested possible abuse.

According to the Sheriff’s Office, Jada Yvette Gibbs, 25, a therapist with Multi-Disciplinary Therapy, allegedly engaged in unlawful conduct toward a child under her supervision. Following the initial complaint, investigators began reviewing evidence, interviewing staff, and coordinating with the private therapy company that employed Gibbs.

Deputies stated that Multi-Disciplinary Therapy notified law enforcement immediately after being informed of the alleged incident by Wedgefield University for Kids. A warrant for Gibbs’ arrest was later issued, and officials said she turned herself in at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office on November 13, 2025.

According to the sheriff’s office, Gibbs was charged with two counts of unlawful conduct toward a child. She was booked into the Sumter County Detention Center and later released on a $10,000 bond.
