According to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office, the incident began at approximately 2:39 p.m. Wednesday when deputies received a report of a shooting on Laverne Avenue. Responding units found a victim suffering from a gunshot wound and immediately provided medical aid. Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Prisma Health Tuomey. As of the sheriff’s office’s latest statement, the victim’s condition remains unknown.

Deputies say the suspect, identified as Thomas Mason Donlon, 33, of Pepperidge Drive in Sumter, allegedly fled the area following the shooting. Additional units canvassed nearby neighborhoods and commercial corridors as part of the search.

According to investigators, Donlon was later located at a motel on Broad Street near Tryon Street. Deputies took him into custody without incident.

Donlon was arrested on charges of attempted murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime, officials said. He has been transported to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center, where he is being held pending a bond hearing.

Authorities have not released further details on what led to the dispute. No other injuries were reported.
