Sumter, SC – The third and final suspect in the July 1 murder of Cameron Deshawn Pearson has been arrested, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office.
Authorities said Darrone Terrell McCray Jr., 18, of Santee, was taken into custody Thursday, September 18, at a residence in Florence by deputies and the U.S. Marshals Task Force. McCray was charged with murder and possession of a weapon during a violent crime. He is being held without bond at the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center.
According to the Sheriff’s Office, two others were previously arrested in the case: Nyasia Nicole Vaughn, 18, who remains in custody without bond, and a 16-year-old juvenile who has been petitioned to Family Court.
Pearson, 20, was shot and killed on July 1 around 3 p.m. on Bluegrass Court in Sumter County.
Sheriff Anthony Dennis said the arrests close a difficult chapter for the community. “This senseless violence is a dead-end road with no future,” Dennis said. “People need to understand that when they commit these acts, we will not rest until they are brought to justice.”
Officials confirmed all suspects linked to Pearson’s murder are now in custody.
