Sumter, SC – One person was injured and another taken into custody Friday morning after a shooting at a home in Sumter County, according to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office. The incident unfolded around 9 a.m. on December 5, 2025, when deputies were called to a residence on Children’s Lane.
According to the sheriff’s office, deputies arrived to find a gunshot victim along with an identified suspect, who is the victim’s brother. Officials said emergency first aid was provided at the scene before Emergency Medical Services transported the victim to Prisma Health Tuomey Hospital for treatment. No updates on the victim’s condition have been released.
Deputies arrested 21-year-old Staton Cole Montgomery, who is charged with attempted murder in connection with the shooting. A booking photo was not available at the time of the department’s release. Montgomery was taken to the Sumter County Sheriff’s Office Detention Center and is being held pending a bond hearing.
Authorities did not disclose what led to the alleged shooting, but noted that the investigation is ongoing. The sheriff’s office routinely responds to serious incidents across Sumter County, including communities near Sumter, Dalzell, and the broader Midlands region of South Carolina.
