Gallatin, TN – A Sumner County jury has convicted a Westmoreland man of multiple child rape and sexual abuse offenses following a 3-day trial, according to District Attorney General Thomas Dean.

Prosecutors Nathan Nichols and Tara Wyllie secured guilty verdicts against Skye Clinton Sweat, 40, for four counts of rape of a child, six counts of aggravated sexual battery, and two counts of exploitation of a minor. The case was tried before Criminal Court Judge Dee David Gay.

According to the District Attorney’s Office, the investigation began in May 2024, when a 9-year-old girl reported that Sweat had shown her explicit videos and touched her inappropriately. The report led to an immediate investigation by the Westmoreland Police Department. A forensic interview at Ashley’s Place revealed additional abuse spanning 2023 to 2024.

After hearing testimony, jurors found Sweat guilty on all charges. He now faces up to 316 years in prison with no possibility of parole, probation, or early release. Judge Gay revoked Sweat’s bond, and he remains in the Sumner County Jail pending sentencing.

District Attorney Dean praised the work of investigators and victim advocates, stating, “This conviction would not have been possible without the bravery of the victim and the excellent investigation by the Westmoreland Police Department.”

Dean added that protecting children remains one of his top priorities: “Those who harm children will be brought to justice and held accountable for their crimes.”
