Sullivan County, TN – Detectives in Sullivan County announced an arrest Friday in connection to the theft of two Tennessee Walking Horses from Blountville earlier this week.
According to the Sullivan County Sheriff’s Office (SCSO), Matthew Lee Stewart, 34, of Blountville, was arrested and charged with burglary, theft of property valued at more than $10,000 but less than $60,000, two counts of animal cruelty, and money laundering.
Investigators said the horses were stolen from the area of Hobbs Hollow Road. Surveillance images of a light-colored pickup truck were released earlier in the week as detectives sought information from the public. Community members also shared photographs of the horses on social media as the investigation unfolded.
The SCSO confirmed the horses have since been located in Kentucky and will soon be returned to their rightful owners. Stewart is currently being held at the Sullivan County Jail.
Authorities encourage anyone with additional information related to the case to contact the Sheriff’s Office.
