Monticello, New York – Snow and 45 mph wind gusts will create whiteout conditions across Sullivan County and northeast Pennsylvania by late Sunday night, threatening to shut down travel through 7 p.m. Monday. Visibility may drop below a quarter mile, especially in higher elevations and open areas where blowing snow will drift across roadways.
According to the National Weather Service in Binghamton, a Blizzard Warning is in effect for Sullivan County in New York and Pike and Southern Wayne counties in Pennsylvania. Total snowfall between 7 and 16 inches is expected, with the most intense conditions developing late Sunday night into Monday as winds increase.
Across the region, Interstate 84, Route 6 and Route 209 could become snow-covered and impassable at times. Even when steady snow tapers, strong winds may loft freshly fallen snow, reducing visibility and creating dangerous drifts. Gusty winds could also snap tree limbs and scatter debris onto secondary roads from Milford to Honesdale.
The worst conditions will impact both the Monday morning and evening commutes. Officials urge residents to delay all non-essential travel, winterize vehicles and carry emergency supplies if driving is unavoidable. New York drivers can call 511 for road updates, while Pennsylvania motorists can check 511PA for restrictions and closures.
Snow and wind will gradually ease Monday evening, but blizzard conditions may persist in exposed areas until the warning expires at 7 p.m. Monday. Additional travel advisories remain possible if visibility drops further overnight.
