STROUDSBURG, Pa. – Winter is set to make a fierce arrival across the Poconos and northwest New Jersey, with a Winter Storm Watch in effect from late Monday night through Tuesday evening. The National Weather Service in Mount Holly warns that Carbon and Monroe counties in Pennsylvania, along with Sussex County, New Jersey, could see 4 to 8 inches of snow and sleet by Tuesday night.
According to the National Weather Service, snow will develop after midnight and intensify before sunrise Tuesday, falling at rates of more than an inch per hour at times. The heaviest snow is expected early Tuesday morning, making for dangerous conditions during both the morning and evening commutes. Roads may quickly become snow-covered and slick, especially across mountain passes and untreated surfaces.
Some sleet or rain could briefly mix in Tuesday afternoon, particularly in lower elevations, before tapering off in the evening. Motorists are urged to slow down, avoid unnecessary travel, and allow extra time for morning travel as plow crews work to clear roadways.
Snow is expected to end late Tuesday night, with cold air keeping roads icy into Wednesday morning.
