Wilmington, OH – Drivers across southwest and central Ohio should prepare for a windy commute Wednesday as the National Weather Service (NWS) in Wilmington warns of very breezy conditions, with gusts between 30 and 40 MPH likely from late morning through the afternoon.

According to the National Weather Service, the strongest winds are expected Wednesday afternoon, especially for north–south roads where crosswinds may create travel challenges. Forecasters say loose outdoor items—including early holiday decorations—should be secured before conditions worsen.

Wind gust potential varies across the region, with areas including Dayton, Columbus, Springfield, Hillsboro, and Wilmington projected to see some of the highest values. Parts of west-central Ohio could experience gusts approaching 40–45 MPH, while southern counties may see speeds closer to 25–35 MPH.

Although the day is expected to remain mostly dry, the NWS notes that a few sprinkles or light flurries may occur in scattered locations. The windy pattern is expected to ease into the evening, though temperatures will feel cooler due to wind chill.

Travelers, especially high-profile vehicle drivers, are advised to use caution. Strong crosswinds may affect trucks, vans, SUVs, and vehicles hauling trailers. The NWS also recommends residents secure anything that could easily blow away, including garbage bins, inflatables, and porch decorations.

Residents across Warren, Greene, Montgomery, Clinton, Fayette, Franklin, Madison, Miami, and Shelby counties are encouraged to stay alert for updates as forecasters continue to monitor wind strength through Wednesday.
