Strong Winds Up to 55 MPH Expected Monday Into Tuesday Across North Central Oregon

Pendleton, OR – The National Weather Service in Pendleton has issued a Wind Advisory for much of north central and eastern Oregon, including the Columbia Basin, Yakima Valley, and the Blue Mountain Foothills, beginning 1 PM Monday through 7 AM Tuesday.

Forecasters say a cold front and strong winds aloft will move across the region, bringing southwest winds of 25–35 mph, with gusts reaching 45–55 mph. The strongest gusts are expected along exposed ridges and high terrain, where confidence in damaging gusts is between 70–85%.

Areas likely to be most affected include:

  • North Central Oregon
  • Simcoe Highlands
  • Eastern Columbia River Gorge
  • Lower Columbia Basin
  • Blue Mountain Foothills
  • Yakima Valley

Drivers should use extra caution, especially those operating high-profile vehicles or traveling along east–west routes where crosswinds will be strongest. Loose outdoor objects should be secured ahead of the wind event.
